Decade End Ramblings

2019. The end of yet another decade. So, we survived the Mayan Apocalypse and the economic crisis (which were two, not so unimportant feats) and, yet, we are perennially waiting with bated breath for the next great struggle. So, yes, (being a part of Gen Z) I have watched countless struggles, some more gruesome than the others, being played out onto TV screens. And out of all those stories, comes out a defining trend – most struggles are personal.

If we could have an entire reel dedicated to our lives, what would be the scenes that matter to you the most, that defines you the most ? So what would make the director’s cut ? Is it those moments that we have carefully curated and uploaded on to social media ? Or is it those moments, that you were really unprepared for – moments that we keep fondly in our mind’s treasure trove. And most of these are the “little” things – our stories, our personal victories – because, well, none of the big things really do matter, they never did. That shiny plaque and the countless certificates you got would soon end up accumulating a ton of dust, if it did not have a story behind it – a story worth remembering for.

That is why, your story serves as an inspiration to you, always. Because wherever you go and no matter how far you might have come, your story works like a double edged sword – helps you to stay grounded and yet, reminds you of how far you have come. But most stories are deeply personal. Maybe, that is why it is so difficult to imagine ourselves in someone else’s shoes. But, if it wasn’t for our stories, then what would we have as an identity ? That is why, we need to take pride in it, so that maybe, one day, someone else might say your story. So, come 2020 what would be your story ?
